What is NHS?
National Honor Society is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who demonstrate excellence in the area of scholarship, leadership, service and character. These characteristics have been associated with the membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921. Deer Valley’s National Honor Society currently consists of 122 juniors and seniors. Our chapter’s focus is community service which is one of the expectations for all NHS members .

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
1. Maintain a 3.75 GPA
2. Complete 25 hours of community service per semester. Maximum 10 hours from school, and minimum 15 hours out of school. (Total of 50 hours for year)
3. Attend at least 3 meetings per semester
If a student's GPA falls below 3.75, they will be placed on probation and have one semester to improve their GPA. Students who fail to attend the required meetings and/or fail to complete their community service hours each semester will also be placed on probation and required to complete an additional 10 hours the following semester. Students who fail to follow through after being on probation for one semester will lose membership status. Students who fail to meet all 3 requirements or receive a school suspension will automatically lose membership status.
